Day 1 Auckland - Bay of Islands

On arrival in Auckland our representative will greet and transfer you to the domestic terminal for the short flight to Kerikeri. On landing in Kerikeri the driver / guide for North Island section of your New Zealand experience will welcome you. Alternatively for passengers travelling by rental you will be welcomed by the staff of Okato Lodge and transferred to the property. Here you will be able to uplift your rental car. The balance of the day will be free to relax in the beautiful Bay of Islands environment. Russell and surrounding towns are New Zealand's oldest European settlements. Historic places include the Waitangi Treaty House where the British concluded their treaty with the native Maori inhabitants of New Zealand.

Day 2 Bay of Islands

Today many sightseeing options exist. We strongly suggest visitors take the Cape Brett Hole In The Rock Cruise, a four hour journey sailing through the famous Hole in the Rock. The remainder of the day will be free for further sightseeing..

Day 3 Bay of Islands - Auckland - Coromandel (Pauanui)

Farewell Okiato Lodge and drive south to Auckland. We suggest travelling via the magnificent Kauri Forests located on the West Coast. Recommended is a visit to the Kauri Museum at Matakohe, which has an excellent display highlighting the early settlement of the region. From Auckland City continue to the rich farmland of the Waikato and onto Thames. Crossing the bush clad peaks of the Coromandel Peninsula to reach Pauanui and its expansive golden beaches.

Day 4 Coromandel - Rotorua

Departing the Coromandel travel down the Peninsula to arrive at the community of Waihi, home of the Martha Gold Mine - the World's 9th richest. Follow the coastline through the Kiwi Fruit producing regions to reach Tauranga. Pass Te Puke's giant kiwi fruit and cross the Ohau Channel, between Lakes Rotorua and Rotoiti, to arrive in the Rotorua.

Day 5 Rotorua

A full day to explore Rotorua's wide variety of attractions. "Must sees" include the Whakarewarewa thermal district and traditional Maori village, Rainbow Springs park like surrounding with wild trout, a Kiwi House and beautiful bush walks. We strongly suggest visitors take a scenic flight over Mount Tarawera with its awesome carter.

Day 6 Rotorua - Mt. Ruapehu

Travel south to Lake Taupo the scene of the world's largest known volcanic eruption in 1086 AD. The route to Taupo first travels through one of the world's largest man made forests and then past the spectacular Huka Falls. In addition to visiting the Falls we suggest a visit to the Craters of the Moon geothermal reserve. From Taupo skirt the shores of the Lake to reach Turangi at the Lake's southern end. Drive over the Pehaunga Saddle to Tongariro National Park and the Grand Chateau Hotel located on the slopes of Mount Ruapehu, a 3000 metre volcano.

Day 7 Mt. Ruapehu - Auckland

Mount Ruapehu has a variety of outdoor activities of interest to visitors, ranging from short bush walks to chairlift rides up Mt Ruapehu to New Zealand's highest restaurant at over 2000 metres. Weather permitting the Chair ride affords sightseers wonderful views across the central North Island. Later today depart for Auckland. Travel through the hilly King Country district, site of the 19th Century New Zealand wars to arrive at the Waitomo Caves, famous for their glow worm displays and limestone formations. A one hour tour through the Glow Worm Cave is included. Departing Waitomo continue over the regions countryside to Hamilton before retracing your route to Auckland - City of Sails.

Day 8 Depart Auckland

This morning explore Auckland's stunning waterfront, central business district and the eclectic shopping districts and Ponsonby and Parnell. This afternoon transfer to the Airport for your onward flight. Rental cars may be returned to the Airport.
