Day 1 Auckland - Waitomo Caves - Rotorua
Depart 8.15 am
Journey south to the farms of the Waikato. Follow
the Waikato River, New Zealands longest, to Hamilton before
continuing on to the Waitomo Caves. Visit the Glow Worm Caves with
their millions of fairy lights. (Included) Reboarding the coach
traverse the Mamaku Ranges before descending to Lake Rotorua and
the City.
Day 2 Rotorua
This mornings half day tour first visits
geysers, steaming pools and boiling mud. The excitement continues
at the Agrodome where the stars of the show are nearly all sheep.
After learning of New Zealand's farming heritage relax amongst the
native bush and crystal clear pools teaming with Brown and Rainbow
trout.
The afternoon is free.
Day 3 Rotorua - Taupo - Napier
Travel south through the massive man made forests
and view the geothermal power stations prior to arriving in Taupo.
Traverse the rugged Kaimanawa Ranges to reach the Hawkes Bay and
Napier - famous for its Art Deco buildings built after the destructive
1931 earthquake. Hawkes Bay is also well known for quality vineyards
and orchards.
Day 4 Napier - Wellington
This morning enjoy a tour of the Napier City and
environs. This afternoon travel across the Takapau Plains and through
the Scandinavian settlements of Norsewood and Danevirke to reach
Woodville. Enter the Manawatu Gorge with its surging river and journey
below the Tararua Ranges. Pass through the market garden towns of
Levin and Otaki to arrive in Wellington, the Nations Capital.
Day 5 Wellington
Commence with a morning tour, highlights include
the Beehive, Parliament Buildings, the Cable Car, Mt. Victoria,
Te Papa Museum of New Zealand and the wild southern coastline. This
afternoon will be free. In addition to the Nations Capital
the city is the countrys food and entertainment capital, with
its limitless dining options, theatre and art galleries.
Day 6 Wellington - Mount Ruapehu
The Overlander train travels north to the Kapiti
Coast and its famous Kapiti Island bird reserve. Follow the base
of the Tararua Ranges and over the Manawatu River prior to commencing
the climb to the Volcanic Plateau with its 9000 ft. volcanic peak
Mt. Ruapehu. Hug the base of the mountain to National Park and your
transfer to the Whakapapa Village located on slopes of Mt. Ruapehu.
Day 7 Mount Raupehu - Auckland
Travel up the mountain road and ride the chairlifts
to the Knoll Ridge Chalet, ( optional ) New Zealands highest
restaurant, with its panoramic views over the Central North Island.
Time allows for a brief alpine walk before returning to your accommodation.
This afternoon reboard the Overlander Train and travel over the
famous Raurimu Spiral and through the hilly King Country district
to reach the Waikato Countryside and Hamilton, Depart the city and
retrace your route to Auckland.
